The Complete Story

For most of his life, Suresh was there for his younger brother, Seelan. Now, after losing the person he spent decades caring for, Suresh needs a little help of his own.

Suresh’s story

  • A childhood shaped by caregiving: When Suresh was around seven years old, his younger brother, Gunaseelan, affectionately known as Seelan, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. From a young age, Suresh helped care for his brother, taking on responsibilities that most children his age would never have to think about.
  • Becoming his brother’s main caregiver: After their mother passed away in 2009, Suresh became Seelan’s primary caregiver. He dedicated much of his life to looking after his brother while juggling work to provide for their needs.
  • A bond beyond caregiving: Seelan was more than someone Suresh cared for. He was his best friend and companion. The brothers travelled together, shared countless memories and found joy in the little things. Suresh also shared their lives through his online platform, helping others understand the realities of caregiving and life with a family member with disabilities.

On 29 August 2026, Seelan passed away at the age of 42. After spending decades caring for his brother, Suresh is now navigating life without someone who had been at the centre of his world.

In December 2025, Suresh sustained injuries to both knees. While continuing to care for Seelan, he put off addressing his own wellbeing. His injuries eventually required ACL reconstruction surgery on both legs, leaving him facing months of recovery.

Why We’re Raising Funds

After years of putting his brother’s needs first, Suresh is now facing the challenge of recovering from surgery while adjusting to life after his loss.

Having undergone ACL reconstruction surgery on both legs, Suresh needs time to regain his mobility and strength. During this four-month recovery period, his ability to work and earn an income may be limited, making it difficult to keep up with his essential expenses and outstanding bills.

We’re hoping to raise S$30,000 to support Suresh through this recovery period. The funds will go towards his essential living expenses, including housing payments, utilities, food and transport, as well as outstanding medical and household bills and other necessary costs.

These funds will help ease the financial pressure on Suresh while he focuses on healing and getting back on his feet. After spending so many years caring for his brother, he deserves the time and support to look after his own wellbeing.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, can make a difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign with your friends and family would also mean a great deal.

For a lifetime, Suresh was there for his brother. Now, let’s be there for Suresh.

Thank you for helping Suresh through this difficult chapter and reminding him that he doesn’t have to face it alone.

Suresh is recovering from ACL reconstruction surgery on both legs. He sustained his injuries in December 2025 but put off addressing his own wellbeing while caring for his younger brother, Seelan, who had cerebral palsy. With several months of recovery ahead, his mobility and ability to work may be limited, making financial support important as he gets back on his feet.

ACL reconstruction is a surgical procedure to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), one of the key ligaments that stabilise the knee. Recovery typically involves rehabilitation and physiotherapy, and returning to normal activities can take several months. Recovering from surgery on both legs can present additional challenges with everyday mobility.

Caregivers often dedicate years of their lives to supporting loved ones, sometimes putting their own health, finances and personal needs aside. When circumstances change, caregivers may need support themselves. Suresh’s story highlights the importance of recognising caregivers’ sacrifices and building a community that supports them when they need help.
